6-7 owners and two accidents seems like... a lot.

*does math* 17 year old bimmer
+ m series expensive parts
+ 2 accidents
= you’d probably have to be crazy to buy it
but thats not nessecarilly a bad thing

For something like this, anything more than
one
owner and I’m not even considering it. Then I could understand the accidents a little better, but they still knock $5k off the value vs a totally clean example. IMHO.

I kind of wish I was irresponsible enough to bid on this

Right side pillar damage? Yeah. Oh yeah.

The accident history, the CEL, non-op radio and the seller are holding this one back a bit.
His response on the CEL isn’t confidence inspiring at all.

If this had been available before I bought my cheap Lexus, I might’ve. It’s only about an hour away from my house too.

And you want me to pay you $15-20k for a car that ‘just needs an O2 sensor’, but you’re too lazy/cheap to replace it yourself?
I smell bullshit on this one.
![]() 03/18/2019 at 15:36 |

Even for a clean example parts and maintanence would be expensive. One that has 2 accidents and multiple owners and non-op components would become a cancer to your bank account.

The accidents aren’t a big concern of mine as I’m a driver. I’m also ok with high mileage on these.
However the illuminated check engine light that is “just an 02 sensor”... That makes me nervous. Combined with the fact that the previous owner only clocked 4k miles in a car that is super fun to drive, I’m out.
![]() 03/18/2019 at 15:38 |

Yeah... and he only had it for 4k miles, someones looking to dump and run.

That’s a fair assessment. I was thinking the same thing - but - if the CEL is not major after a PPI, it can be a good daily.
Not a garage queen unlike what BaT usually sells.

Really? ok!

True....

Had the bids not cracked $7k, I might buy this as a parts car lol
![]() 03/18/2019 at 15:44 |

To my way of thinking if the CEL is actually not a big deal, you get it fixed before you list the car for sale. I’d bet on an extra thou or two without a CEL, so why not spend a couple hundred for that?
My brain: “because that CEL is a big deal”

subsequent work included a partial repaint, fitment of a new rear window
hmm

Mmhmm... somebody ain’t telling true. Especially since pillars are critical crash structure . It’s not BOF - it’s unibody. Do enough ‘dent’ to one and you fold the roof and/or floor pan.

I suspect that he’s a flipper, which suggests that he might have cheaped out on the paint. That, or he planned to keep it, but it’s turning into a money pit.
There are some cars on BaT that you can bid on with some confidence without viewing the car in person. This one has too many red flags to spend $$ on without an up close inspection by someone very knowledgeable about these cars. Hard pass.
![]() 03/18/2019 at 15:46 |

Yeah, that makes sense.
Plus, the dude works at a mechanic’s place. If he can’t fix the CEL for cheap , who the hell can?!
![]() 03/18/2019 at 15:47 |

There’s no shortage of red flags here.

“The t ree came aggressively close and inside the cabin after the road went sideways underneath the car.
I didn’t do anything.”

Seller said he works at a shop too. A simple sensor shouldn't cost him hardly anything if that's truly what is wrong.

It’s double what I would pay considering the issues and shaky backstory.

An aftermarket front bumper cover has replaced the original piece, and several clips on the front kidney grilles are reportedly broken.
Correction. Three accidents.
